Oceanside, CA, June 22, 2019 — A reception was held at the Oceanside Yacht Club, Saturday June 22, 2019 to honor past donors to the Oceanside Yacht Club Youth Foundation (OYCYF), and to host all members, friends, juniors and families who were interested in learning about the foundation.
Board Chairman, Michael Cobas, welcomed the group and spoke about this year’s achievements. “This year we were able to replace OYC’s 35 year old sabots with six new RS Tera boats, for the Junior Learn to Sail program. We only need four more by the end of August to reach our goal of ten! “
In addition to the generous donations from OYC members and friends, the OYCYF has received several grants, including one from the International Order of the Blue Gavel, which have enabled the OYC to purchase five FJ’s for the Junior fleet and offer several scholarships for the summer Learn To Sail Program. The OYCYF has also established a program through Amazon Smile that donates a half percent of every member purchase to the foundation.
Michael Cobas concluded the program by thanking all who have generously donated with the hopes that as more people and organizations learn about the foundation, more activities can be funded. “Youth Foundations that focus on developing future sailors are the cornerstones of most yacht clubs. This foundation has been a long time in the making ,” said Michael Cobas.
The OYCYF was founded in 2017 and is a 501(c)(3) organization. The goal is to financially support maritime activities that promote personal leadership, seamanship and a culture that empowers youth to develop their sailing knowledge and skills.
