Oceanside, CA, September 15, 2021 — Michael Cobas, President of the OYCYF and Staff Commodore of OYC, announced this week, that an additional RS Tera has been added to the OYC fleet. The total number of boats now available for the Jr. Learn To Sail program is 12. As with the previous acquisition of RS Teras, the OYCYF worked together with the OYC members and friends who donated the funds to purchase this boat.
Oceanside Yacht Club had been using Sabots for its sailing instruction program for over 35 years, until the fleet was completely replaced by RS Tera’s in 2019. Former OYCYF Chairman and Director of the OYC Jr. Program, Ron Dreyer said, “We are thrilled to acquire another RS Tera! The RS Tera sailboat is our top pick for the Jr. Learn to Sail Program because it is virtually indestructible, low maintenance, versatile and gives kids a real sense of freedom.”
“The Jr. Learn to Sail program was extremely successful this summer, and new classes are now running this fall and will continue into the winter.” Dreyer added, “We want to make our program available to as many kids as possible.”
The OYCYF has a number of fund raising campaigns that finance everything from future boat purchases, boat maintenance, scholarships for Learn To Sail tuition, maritime adventures, maritime instruction, as well as a general fund for overall administration.
The OYCYF, a 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 2017, and is run by volunteers. The goal is to financially support maritime activities for youth that promote personal leadership, seamanship and a culture that empowers youth to develop sailing skills.
