Kids learn to sail, of course.  As their confidence grows, they also learn independence and team work.  Course fees shouldn’t be a barrier to  growing in this remarkable sport.

Class tuition, which includes a junior membership, is kept low, however, some families need assistance.  OYCYF provides scholarships to reduce tuition for families in need.

The OYCYF granted Oceanside Yacht Club $400 to place the names on the new Fj and RS Tera Sailboats. The names were picked by the highest contributors to each program.

Upon receipt OYC Bob got to work on rigging the new boats.

A storage rack was built on the dock to hold all ten RS Teras.

OYC had been using three Zumas.  These fun boats were unique to OYC but didn’t offer double handed sailing.  For a good curriculum, a change was needed to offer strong intermediate and advanced Learn-to-Sail classes.

For $5,000 from OYCYF, OYC acquired five used FJs.  The deal included a double trailer, boat registration and lightly used racing sails.  It took about three months to strip, repair, prime, paint, and re-equip these FJs.

Though the RIB was reliable, it leaked air and water, and wasn’t an optimal coach boat.

For $3,000 a used Boston Whaler with a 25HP Honda was acquired.  OYCYF contributed $1,000.

In 2022 a fund raiser was held and a new 25HP motor replaced the tired well used outboard.

Mast/boom storage had been a tangled affair.  Broken gear, inconvenience, and limited space were the norm.

OYCYF provided $500: PVC tubes were the answer.  Now, 12 masts are easily stowed.  Wear and tear is minimized.
