Oceanside, CA, October 13, 2019 — Ron Dryer, Chairman of the OYCYF, and Director of OYC Jr Program, announced this week, that the RS Terra boat campaign, which launched in 2018, has reached its goal of purchasing 10 boats as of August 31. Working in conjunction with the Oceanside Yacht Club, and generous donations from OYC members and friends, money was raised to acquire the boats. The top 10 donors, will be announced at the OYC General Meeting, October 19, 2019, and now have the honor of naming a boat. Naming rights for the FJs acquired in 2018 will also go to those top donors.
The RS Tera boats replaced Sabots that had been in use at the Oceanside Yacht Club for the past 35 years. Former OYCYF Chairman Michael Cobas said, “We are thrilled to have reached our goal in only a short time! The RS Tera boat was our top pick for the Jr.Learn to Sail program because it is virtually indestructible, low maintenance, versatile and give kids a real sense of freedom.”
Ron Dryer added, “The Tera’s helped make our Jr. Learn To Sail Program this summer, the resounding success that it was. We had more kids than ever participate in all of the sessions!”
The now completed RS Tera program will be replaced by the new “On The Water” fund raising campaign that will finance such things as future boat purchases, boat repairs, maintenance, SUPs, kayaks, and all things related to on the water needs. It joins the existing General and Scholarship Funds.
The OYCYF was founded in 2017 and is a 501(c)(3) organization. The goal is to financially support maritime activities that promote personal leadership, seamanship and a culture that empowers youth to develop their sailing skills.
